The Rules - Youth Competition

 

Categories

There are 3 categories per apparatus.

·      Hoop - Beginners, intermediate, and Performer categories.

·      Sling - Beginners, intermediate, and Performer categories

·      Routine maximum length is 3 minutes for beginner categories in Hoop and Sling,

·      Routine maximum length is 3.30minutes in all Intermediate & Performer categories

·      Youth Hoop & Sling is strictly for the under 16’s. The minimum age for this category is age 8, so all entrants must be between age 8 and 15 at the time of the live final.

 

Entry

1. How to enter:

·       Complete and submit a the competition entry form found on our Competitor Entry page on our website www.spaac.co.uk

·       Once you reach the end of the form, there is a link to the Paypal payment page.

fee: £20 per category  

3. Entries open on the 16th of July 2018, and close on the 28th of October at midnight. Subject to availability on places. 12 places in each category.

4. The entry fee is non-refundable should you choose to no longer compete, there are no additional charges to perform.

5. All finalists will be able to claim a free spectator’s ticket to watch the rest of the competition.

6. There are only 10 spaces per Hoop categories and 6 spaces per Sling categories which are awarded on a first come first serve basis as for this year there is no video heat.

7. Entry fees are non refundable.

 

 

Live Final Rules

Costume – Please ensure costumes are well fitting and that you have tried your costume out before the competition.

Beginner & Intermediate categories Hoop & Sling

·      There is no use of props in these categories, however a themed costume will be permitted as long as there are no props or additional clothing items such as hats, skirts or shoes etc.

·      We recommend a leotard or catsuitn or similar.

Performer categories Hoop & Sling

·      All props and clothing themes are permitted in the performer categories.

·      The use of costume and stage props are permitted.

·      No human, animals or fire props

Props –

·      Props must be able to be set up and cleared away within 1 minute either side of your performance. This can be with help from the Youth Competitors chaperone.

·      Nothing must be left on the stage including any powder, liquids, glitter etc. that could be dangerous for other competitors.  

·      If you are unsure, please get in touch with us BEFORE rehearsing your routine with props!

·      Please notify us of any props by the 10th November 2018

Music –

·      No explicit lyrics! Song choices must be made and emailed in ASAP as there will be reserved on a first come first served basis and no duplicate songs will be used.

·       All music must be emailed in mp3 format by the 10th of November 2018.

·       There will be point deductions for music tracks over the set limits.

Judging –

·      All judges will be announced on the website, facebook and Instagram in advance of the Live Final

·      Please don’t engage in conversation with the judges before or during the competition.

·      The Judges say is final.

·       Judges feedback will be received on the day.

Behaviour –

·      Please remember this is a friendly competition.

·      Please be friendly to all staff, helpers and other competitors backstage!

Equipment

The use of a Xpole – A-frame is the structure for this competition 2018.

The height of the A Frame is 3.35m (11ft) and the 2.00m

Hoop Categories  -

·      The height of the hoop will be 1.4m from the floor but can be lowered if required.

·      The hoop is rigged by Top Bar - Strop - Carabineer – Swivel – Carabineer – Hoop (on hoop tab)

·      The hoops on offer are a 90cm or an 85cm or 80cm hoop.

·      Crash mat is compulsory for the youth category.

Sling Categories  -

·      The sling will be rigged 1.20m from the floor but can be lowered if required.

·       The Sling is rigged by Top Bar – A-frame Figure 8 Connector – Swivel – Rescue 8 – Sling

·       The colour of the sling is purple.

·      Crash mat is compulsory for the youth category.

Judging Criteria and Guidelines  - Beginner & Intermediate

Hoop & Sling Categories

 

Technical/Difficulty - 25 marks available

·      Has the competitor used moves of an appropriate standard of difficulty?

·      Have they used innovative moves or combos?

·      Is there a variety of tricks/grips/holds included?

 

Technique - 10 marks available

·      Were lines maintained?

·      Did they point their toes?

·      Did the competitor look comfortable executing the moves?

·      Were the transitions smooth? 

 

Originality/Theme- 25 marks available

·      Was the piece original?

·      Did they captivate your attention?

·      Does the competitor have good stage presence?

·      Do they engage with the audience?

·      Is the dance well-choreographed?

·       Are the highs and lows in the music reflected in the routine?

 

Costume - 10 marks available

·      Is the costume appropriate for style of performance and theme?

·      Is the music appropriate for the theme?

·      Have they interpreted the music appropriately?

 

Floor – 10 marks available

·      Did they use the floor?

·       Is the floorwork appropriate?

·       Did it help showcase the competitors skills?

 

Overall Score 10

·       How would you rate the whole performance? 

·       Take all factors into consideration.
